Sabyasachi Show at India Couture Week 2014

A luxury train is en route to Ferozabad; in its plush vintage compartments, we see a couple enjoying a light conversation over wine, a man reading a book, and a bartender oblivious to our presence. Sabyasachi’s train to Ferozabad is regal, and inherently extravagant. Interestingly, this train is the ramp for his couture line that builds on the nostalgia of an era bygone. Models dressed in fashionised vintage classics walk the ramp with an unconventional poise to match the attitude of the collection. Subtle and elegant, the line reinvents classics to convey indulgence. Sarees, kurtas and lehengas are detailed elegantly with zardosi, crystal and hand-cut bugle beads. Fabrics have always been the focal point of Sabyasachi’s collection. This time, fabrics like velvet and pashmina, have been given his signature styling. Colours like rose pink, soft gold and beige are used for creating bespoke ensembles for both men and women. The hand embroidered Renaissance coat with Florabotanica sleeves, pashminas, Ferozabadi sarees and Agra zardosi set the tone of the evening. Floral patterns on Nehru jackets and khadi shirts stand out in the men’s line. The collection, comprising of 43 outfits redefine modern India’s concept of Couture. The show, or the train journey as some would prefer to call it, leaves the scope for interpretation to the audience. In spite of the overwhelming presentation, it definitely has an identity that celebrates the grandeur of vintage.
